Jeffrey D. Roberts

Founding Partner

Jeffrey was selected to appear in the Indiana Super Lawyers® Rising Star listings each year from 2011 through 2016, and was named an Indiana Super Lawyer® for 2018 through 2024. Jeffrey focuses his practice on representing corporations, non-profit organizations, business owners, and individuals in commercial and civil matters, including negotiations, disputes, arbitrations, and lawsuits, in matters including:

  • Business ownership disputes (business dissolutions, partnership disputes, minority shareholder oppression, shareholder "freeze out" claims)
  • Restrictive covenants (non-compete and non-solicitation agreements)
  • Employment law (wrongful termination, discrimination claims, wage payment claims)
  • Franchise agreements and litigation
  • Professional liability (medical malpractice and legal malpractice claims)
  • Unfair business practices (trade name infringement, "passing off", tortious interference with contracts and business relationships)
  • Shareholder litigation
  • Commercial contract review, enforcement, and breach claims
  • Fraud and fiduciary duty claims
  • Disputes between investors and investment advisors
  • Commercial leasing
  • Public relations
  • Construction, building, and design disputes
  • Complex commercial collections

Jeffrey also has focused experience handling civil matters, including:

  • Representing behavioral and mental healthcare providers and addiction treatment centers against claims of negligence
  • Premises liability for commercial and multifamily residential property owners and property managers
  • Complex personal injury, sexual and physical abuse claims, and wrongful death matters

Before becoming a founding member of RMRK, Jeffrey developed experience working in a wide range of private practice settings, from the Chicago office of a multinational law firm focusing on complex commercial litigation and general corporate work to a boutique litigation firm in Indianapolis. Jeffrey also spent two years as in-house counsel for a real estate development company handling a broad range commercial leasing and contract negotiation matters.

Jeffrey collaborates with his clients throughout the lifecycle of a given dispute and prides himself on providing direct advice, avoiding lawyer-speak, to counsel his clients about the risks and potential and likely outcomes of a disputed matter, from the first meeting through trial when necessary. He draws on his more than two decades of broad-based litigation experience, which has included complex motion practice, hearings, and bench and jury trials.
